Today the Science Center held a hearing regarding the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum Lease issue. If voted on, USC would lease the Coliseum for 98 years, keeping the profits from events and in turn investing $70 million in improvements to this much needed historical landmark. Numerous supporters showed up to the hearing, many of which were alumni who voiced the importance this landmark has played in their childhood memories and within their families. Also in favor and attendance were community members from the surrounding neighborhood who have been positively affected by USC's numerous outreach programs such as Upward Bound and the TRIO Program.
One community member said that Exposition Park was an asset and point of pride for the community and USC would be an ideal partner to restore it to the world class park and stadium the Coliseum has become known for. Sergio Gascon, Executive Director of USC MBDA Business Center and USC Bridges Program, voiced his own support today in favor of the lease claiming, "USC represents trust, stability, and excellence which are qualities found in a good neighbor and especially in a community leader."
